Organizational Needs:
Natural Resources Canada is committed to establishing and maintaining a representative workforce. This organizational need may be identified as part of the appointment decision. In such cases, qualified candidates who self-declare as members of a visible minority group, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities or women (in non-traditional occupations) could be considered in priority.
Are you looking for a fast-paced, challenging, and unique work environment? Well, look no further!
Created in 1958, the Polar Continental Shelf Program (PCSP) is an organization within Natural Resources Canada that provides logistical support to the Other Government Departments and over 1100 Canadian Arctic researchers annually. The overall mission of the PCSP is to provide safe, efficient and cost-effective logistical support to researchers from Canadian government agencies, northern communities, and independent and university groups conducting scientific activities in isolated areas throughout the Canadian Arctic.
Working as a Logistics Operations Officer for the PCSP is not your typical 9 to 5 job. You will encounter two distinct work environments in this position: the Arctic Logistics hub in Resolute Bay, NU, and hybrid work from one of the many NRCan offices across Canada.
During the operational field season, which runs approximately January to September, you will work in Resolute Bay, Nunavut, on a rotational basis, to ensure all the well-made plans run smoothly. Your day-to-day tasks will involve everything from deciphering weather to dispatching aircraft, amending client’s logistics, discussing operations with clients and other team members via email, telephone, satellite phone, InReach and HF radio, keeping in touch with remote field camps, arranging loads for aircraft, completing administrative tasks and much, much more.
From approximately September to February, you will connect with the Arctic Logistics Operations team remotely/virtually from the Ottawa headquarters, or potentially from one of the many NRCan offices across Canada. During this period, the team works with clients to plan the aircraft, field equipment and accommodations they require to perform their scientific research throughout the Arctic.
Rotations to Resolute Bay are usually 6 weeks in length. When working in Resolute Bay you will be working 7 days per week, 10 hours per day, accumulating overtime hours. Each rotation is followed by 3 weeks off, using the accumulated overtime hours so you do not miss a pay. Any excess overtime hours can be taken as additional time off (based on operational requirements) or cashed out as additional pay.
Still not certain you want to apply? Check out all these benefits:
• All travel costs from your home to the Arctic will be arranged and covered by the PCSP.
• The Government of Canada has a great heath care, dental, and pension plan.
• Flexible working hours (dependant upon operational requirements).
• While working in Resolute Bay, you will be staying at our facility at no additional cost. At the facility you will have your own room with satellite TV, access to lounges, a library, a laundry room, and a fitness room, and be fed by our amazing cooks.
• While working in Resolute Bay, you will receive a payment for incidentals of $17.30 per day for the first 30 days and $13.00 per day afterwards.
The intent of this selection process is to staff one (1) permanent position.
A pool of (fully or partially) qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various linguistic requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.
