STREAM 1: Senior Coastal Restoration Engineer, Salmon Habitat Restoration Centre of Expertise
As a Senior Coastal Restoration Engineer, you will be part of a regional team of specialized staff (e.g. technicians, biologists, geomorphologists) working on the development and implementation of salmon habitat restoration projects in coastal nearshore habitats. This work involves restoring nearshore beaches, salt marshes, and estuaries in coastal BC and Yukon. As a lead authority in coastal engineering, you will play a key role in project planning and implementation, stakeholder engagement; and modeling, analysis and engineering advice on coastal habitat restoration activities.
Your work will involve field visits for data gathering, feasibility studies, project design and planning, estimating project costs and benefits, construction management, and writing up reports and recommendations. Maintenance and repair of existing habitat projects may also form a part of your duties. At a regional level, your work will produce tools to guide and address complicated engineering challenges from feasibility studies through shovel-ready designs to construction completion, support region-wide restoration infrastructure tracking and maintenance, and operationalize new and emerging technologies such as UAVs and a suite of modeling and analysis software to improve restoration planning and evaluation.
STREAM 2: Senior Enhancement Project Engineer, Salmon Enhancement Directorate
As a Senior Project Engineer, you will manage a portfolio of complex engineering projects and work performed by subordinate staff, contractors, and DFO’s Real Property and Technical Services (RPTS) Branch. You may lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and engineering students within the Regional engineering group.
Through new federal PSSI, DFO is undertaking an infrastructure investment plan into hatcheries operated by external partners throughout Pacific Region. You will participate in teams consisting of Engineers, Biologists, Project Managers and Technicians to develop and implement changes that will improve, expand and secure facilities. You will also oversee the life cycle management of infrastructures including engineering inspections and structural evaluations; recommending priorities for repair and re-capitalization, timelines, and action plans to ensure infrastructure meets engineering and safety standards; and providing expert and authoritative advice and guidance on complex infrastructure-related technical and operational issues to staff, colleagues, management, and stakeholders (expertise is typically provided in one or more specialized areas of engineering, e.g. asset management, environmental, structural, complex project management, etc.). This work will be conducted in close collaboration with external partner organizations including First Nations and societies.
The immediate intent of this process is to offer up to four (4) indeterminate appointments, one (1) each in Vancouver, Delta, Nanaimo and Terrace, BC. The candidate pool resulting from this selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various locations on an indeterminate, term, secondment, deployment, assignment or acting basis.
