Locations of work:

Three positions could be located either at Gatineau, QC, or Whitehorse, YT. One position is located only at Whitehorse, YT.

- Design Senior Engineer, Geotechnical Senior Engineer, and Project Controls Senior Engineer are at Gatineau or Whitehorse.
- Construction Management & Operations Senior Engineer is at Whitehorse only.

An applicant must be willing to relocate to the location of work, if not already residing there.

Salary, Allowances, and Benefits:

The collective agreement has expired and is currently under negotiation. The salary offered could be higher than what is currently announced.

For positions at Whitehorse, in addition to salary, you are entitled to an isolated post allowance. The amount depends on the number of dependants, geographic location and whether the accommodation is provided by the Crown. You are also entitled to vacation travel allowance once a year for you and each eligible dependant.

As a federal government employee, you will also receive a comprehensive benefit package including an employee pension plan and health, dental and group insurance.

Work environment

Crown-Indigenous Relation and Northern Affairs Canada are seeking to hire four (4) Senior Engineers to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals involved in overseeing the remediation of the former Faro Mine in Yukon. The Faro Mine was once the largest open pit lead-zinc mine in the world and is now one of the most complex abandoned mine remediation projects in Canada. Intent of the process

Immediate need: Staff up to four (4) full-time indeterminate positions. Three (3) can be located either at Gatineau, QC, or Whitehorse, YT. One (1) is located only at Whitehorse, YT.

This process will be used to fill current vacancies and to establish a pool of qualified candidates for future opportunities. It may also be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (Deployment, Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Term or Indeterminate) within Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) with various security requirements (reliability or secret).

By default, and in the interest of the greater public service, pools created as a result of staffing processes at CIRNAC may be shared with other government departments.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

The following criteria will be assessed using your résumé and the online screening questions. To be selected, you must demonstrate when, where and how you acquired each of the qualifications by giving concrete examples.

• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in environmental engineering, mining engineering, civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, geological engineering, water resources engineering, or some other accredited engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

• Experience in management of projects including, but not limited to, work planning, scope/schedule/budget management, cost estimation, risk assessment and management, construction administration principles & documentation, tendering process, and contracts.
• Significant experience* providing engineering support for some or all of the following projects or work settings: industrial, mine remediation, major civil infrastructure (such as: mine waste; dams; water retention & diversions/management; construction management; earthworks), and other relevant large scale engineering projects.

*Significant experience is defined as having the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired over a period of at least five years within the past 10 years.

The following criteria will be assessed using your résumé and online screening questions. They are assets; preference could be given to those who meet them.

• Registration, or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
• Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI) or equivalent.

• Experience in mining projects and/or mine reclamation and restoration plans.

For the Design and Construction Management & Operations Senior Engineers positions only:

• Experience with Canadian Environmental regulations and legislation or Canadian Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment on engineering design, construction, operation or maintenance of mining or large scale civil or industrial projects (such as engineering design, construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and tender documents) in at least one of the following areas:
- Water Resources, such as: watershed hydrology modelling and assessment, hydrological and hydraulic analysis, flood risk analysis, river or diversion engineering.
- Civil Construction, such as: roads, buildings, dams, water diversions, building demolition, and other infrastructure.
- Technical oversight of industrial or mining site operations, maintenance and/or major construction.

For the Geotechnical Senior Engineer position only:

• Experience working with Canada's Dam Safety Guidelines and Dam Safety Review (DSR) processes.
• Experience in reviewing reports related to site investigations, analysis of geotechnical conditions (including soil, rock, groundwater, surface water), and geophysical investigations.

For the Project Controls Senior Engineer position only:

• Experience with development of project controls, work planning and change management processes.
• Experience in cost estimation, tracking and validation.
