Assessment accommodation

Transport Canada, Civil Aviation, is the federal body that oversees the Canadian aviation industry and the regulatory framework in which aviation operates. Civil Aviation has approximately 1300 staff distributed between the Ottawa headquarters and offices in each of the five regions across Canada.

Civil Aviation supports aviation safety in this large and diverse system through its national aviation safety program, using a regulatory framework and oversight program. As part of our oversight activities, we verify that the aviation industry complies with the regulatory framework through certifications, assessments, validations, inspections, and enforcement.

Duties

As part of this exciting team, the Civil Aviation Safety Inspector, Technical Program Evaluation and Coordination (TPEC) is responsible for:

• Maintaining applicable aviation safety Regulations, standards, and guidance documentation by
reviewing and amending them, as required.
• Developing training and promotional material to promote aviation safety and education.
• Engaging with regulatory partners, safety agencies and associations
• Contributing to and implementing aviation safety standards and guidance documentation while
engaging with various international civil aviation safety organizations.
• Support other projects for the Safety Promotion and Education team, as well as more broadly
supporting the work of the TPEC division.

Work environment

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work from a Transport Canada office across Canada.

Intent of the process

The results of this process will initially be used to staff one (2) position indeterminately with a BBB/BBB or an English essential linguistic profile.

A pool of qualified candidates will be established to staff identical or similar positions with various tenures and various linguistic profiles with Transport Canada.

Qualified candidates who self-declare as members of Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, and/or women may be selected for appointment first to fulfill organizational needs. In addition, this organizational need may be invoked at any stage of the selection process.

EDUCATION
ED1: Secondary school diploma or other acceptable combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
EX 1: Experience working in the aviation sector or industry.
EX 2: Experience analyzing, developing, reviewing and/or delivering training on safety policies, programs and procedures.
EX 3: Experience developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. other groups, units, branches departments, other government organizations, the private sector, or interest group associations).

ASSET EDUCATION
AED1: Post-secondary education in the field related to aviation or aviation management.

Degree equivalency

ASSET EXPERIENCE
AEX1: Experience in development of training programs in an aviation environment.
AEX2: Experience in developing and/or applying risk management concepts and principles.
AEX3: Experience with Safety Management System (SMS) and/or State Safety Program (SSP) regulatory framework, principles, and requirements.
AEX4: Experience in project management, in event planning and/or public engagement activities
AEX5: Experience developing written reports related to regulatory oversight or compliance.
AEX6: Experience working or engaging with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and/or other civil aviation authorities.
