Assessment accommodation

Duties

The Public Health Nurse collaborates in the delivery of comprehensive health programs which include promoting, protecting and preserving the health of First Nations populations. The maintenance of cultural competence and the provision of culturally safe care are paramount in these areas of practice.

The roles and activities include: vaccination clinics, maternal/child health and school health programming.

Work environment

First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB), Indigenous Services Canada provides nursing services intended to enhance the health of First Nations peoples in Saskatchewan. Health Care programs are designed in partnership with community members and leaders to promote environments that support good health.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to establish a pool to staff anticipated temporary or permanent vacancies in various locations within Saskatchewan.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada

EXPERIENCE
Recent* and Significant** experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) providing Community Health or Primary Care nursing services in one or more of the following areas:

1. Community Health (Public Health and Home and Community Care)
2. Primary Care
3. Urgent or Emergency Care
4. Acute or Intensive Care

Recent* is defined as within the last three years
Significant** is defined as at least one year of experience with the candidate performing complex activities related to this task in a wide range of situations.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Graduation with a degree in nursing from a recognized post-secondary institution*

*A public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs.

Willingness to relocate to Saskatchewan
Occasional requirement to work overtime
Occasional requirement for overnight travel
Willingness and ability to work overtime in the event of a public health emergency or outbreak

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance
Possession of a valid driver’s licence
Current Basic Life Support certification
Continuous professional registration, in good standing, or eligibility to register with College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
