Assessment accommodation

When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory for future vacancies. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment.

The first pull of applications is scheduled for May 1, 2023. You can make modifications to your submitted application at any time, but once your application has been selected for screening, you will no longer be able to make modifications and your submission will be considered final.  

Applications from the inventory may be pulled on a regular basis or will take place on an "as and when needed" basis. Your application in this inventory will be active for 105 days. A notice that your application is about to expire will be posted to the My jobs menu of your account 15 days before the end of your active period. If you do not take action, your application will no longer be active and therefore no longer considered for this inventory. Should your application become inactive while the process is still open, a notice will be posted to your account indicating that your application has expired; you may select the link Update my Inventory Status to reaffirm your interest.  

CITIZENSHIP INFORMATION
In your application, please identify the legal status which entitles you to work in Canada - Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status or work permit.
You will be asked to show proof of this status in order to complete the security screening required for employment. Failure to provide this information will eliminate your application from further consideration.

Individuals without Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status will only be considered if all other applicants are determined to be not qualified.

Work environment

Working in a correctional institutional environment with offenders and staff members.
Provision of assistance in the preparation, distribution and service of meals and preparation and distribution of groceries to offenders in an institution of the Correctional Service of Canada or a Regional Food Production Centre (RFPC).
Training of offenders in the area of Food Services to improve their employability skills and behaviours.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially / fully assessed candidates may be established through this selection process to staff positions with various tenures.

EXPERIENCE
Recent experience working in food services within a commercial or institutional setting.
Experience in the preparation and distribution of short order cooking.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of food preparation and service techniques (e.g. portion control, measuring ingredients, operating kitchen equipment etc).
Knowledge of preparation and food handling procedures.
Knowledge of workplace safety requirements, hygiene and sanitation practices.
Knowledge of safe lifting and carrying techniques.

ABILITIES
Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations accurately.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to provide training.

PERSONAL SUITABILITY
Work in a team.
Judgment.
Dependability.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of a secondary school diploma.
Possession of a valid recognized Safe Food Handling Program certification.
Professional Culinary Art diploma.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience working with cash register or Point of sale system.
Experience working in a correctional environment (institutional or community office).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Willingness to work overtime on short notice.
Willingness to work shift work (evening, weekends, statutory holidays).
