When submitting an application to this selection process, you will be prompted to answer screening questions concerning the essential and asset experience qualifications. As an AS-03 Legal Support Manager, you will be responsible for the supervision of up to 20 legal assistants. You will liaise with those legal assistants daily and on occasion with counsel where the need may arise, ie to discuss support requirements, to investigate and talk through problems and working relationships. You will plan for and attend weekly support staff meetings, you will attend weekly Management Team meetings, Legal Support Manager meetings and monthly Administrative Committee meetings. You will also be required to review and approve vacation leave and training requests, complete performance reviews twice a year and provide additional performance coaching or mentorship where needed throughout the review period. You will be involved in the hiring processes for legal assistants, as they are hired, you will be responsible with onboarding them and ensuring they are provided with the necessary tools to begin their career in Justice. In this new hybrid work model, it is important to have employees feel engaged and involved, you will be researching, planning and carrying out teambuilding sessions with your team a couple of times a year. As an integral member of the management team and admin team, projects and tasks will be assigned according the capacity of the manager’s workload.

The immediate need is to staff one indeterminate position in the Tax Law Services division.
A partially or fully assessed pool may be established to staff similar positions within the Department of Justice with an English essential linguistic requirement, various tenures, various operational requirements and/or various conditions of employment.

- Education -
A secondary school diploma from a recognized institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
• A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
• An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Experience -
• Experience delivering administrative services (e.g. managing calendars, coordinating meetings, preparing meeting materials, correspondence over email, formatting and editing documents, updating databases, preparing travel arrangements, etc).
• Experience supervising or leading administrative or legal support services staff.
• Experience providing advice and guidance on policies or procedures
- Asset Qualifications -
• Experience supervising and leading a team of five (5) or more administrative or legal support services staff.
• Experience assessing candidates in staffing/hiring processes.
• Experience providing administrative support in a legal environment.
• Experience in providing financial or human resources (HR) support services in the federal public service (ex. monitoring budgets, assessing candidates, liaising with HR Advisor, etc.)
