Duties

This position is in support of the RCMP electronic surveillance capabilities. Primary responsibilities include the research and development of new technologies and quality assurance.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill one indeterminate IT-02 /SPICT-02 vacancy in Newmarket, Ontario. A pool of candidates may be established to staff same or similar positions at various locations.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

*Recent experience in the configuration, maintenance, or troubleshooting of Windows Server operating systems

*Recent experience in the configuration, maintenance, or troubleshooting of Windows Server operating systems of either UNIX/Linux or Windows Desktop operating systems.

*Recent experience providing client support for IT systems.

*Recent experience with maintenance or troubleshooting of at least two of the following network technologies: Firewalls, VPN’s, Switches, VLANS, QoS, and Routers.

*Recent experience refers to experience within the last five (5) years

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

*Recent experience with virtualization technologies for example VMware, HyperV, ESXI or similar

*Recent experience in utilizing electronics test equipment (for example oscilloscopes, RF communications analyzers, multimeters, etc.)

Experience with radio frequency technologies

Experience with electronic device troubleshooting

Experience with basic CCTV (closed circuit television) components

Experience with telephone communications technology

Experience with GPS (global positioning systems)

*Recent experience refers to experience within the last five (5) years

Travel, domestic and or internationally on short notice.

Work overtime on short notice.

Lifting and installing equipment up to 20 kg.

Work shiftwork as required.

Testify in court.

Possession of valid driver’s license.

Willingness and ability to work in person at the office where the position is located (Newmarket, Ontario).

Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain an RCMP security clearance may involve but is not limited to a security/reliability interview and a field investigation which includes matters of criminal activity, verification of credit/financial status, reference checks, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
