Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff two (2) Database Administrator positions indeterminately. A pool of qualified candidates will be created to fill future vacancies on an indeterminate or term basis with various linguistic profiles and/or various security requirements within the public service Commission. Other government departments may use the pool upon the PSC's approval. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
ED1. Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
EX1: At least three (3) years in the past five (5) years’ experience as a Database Administrator.
EX2: Experience with providing advanced technical support in the development, integration, implementation, and maintenance of Database Management Systems (DBMS) in operational and project environments.
EX3: Experience in providing expert technical advice, recommendations, and guidance to fellow IT colleagues across various disciplines and levels (Junior, senior and intermediate)
EX4: Experience with writing and evaluating SQL scripts including writing and tuning SQL/ PL/SQL and Transact-SQL code for stored procedures, functions, triggers and complex data structures.
EX5: Experience with performing backups and recoveries on databases.

KNOWLEDGE:
K1: Knowledge of Data structures, concepts, and Database design principles (i.e., data normalization).
K2: Knowledge of current and emerging trends relating to new information technologies.

ABILITIES:
AB1: Ability to communicate effectively orally.
AB2: Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

ASSET EDUCATION:

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
AEX1: Experience in installation/configuration, integration, implementation and/or maintenance of at least one of the following DBMSs: Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL.

AEX2: Experience with working in a Unix/Linux or Windows environment, including writing, designing, and automating scripts.

AEX3: Experience in the design, development, testing, monitoring, managing and optimization of Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse related hardware and software products.

AEX4: Experience with Flyway or other open-source database migration tools.

ASSET KNOWLEDGE:
AK1: Knowledge of capacity and storage management
AK2: Knowledge of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) functionality
AK3: Knowledge of Microsoft Power B.I. Techniques and Patterns
AK4: Knowledge of database security principles and practices
