Job duties for the Marine Superintendent include (but are not limited to):
↪ Managing the day to day and long term operational readiness of Canadian Forces Auxiliary Vessels (CFAV) that provide daily direct operational support to HMC Ships, submarines, and visiting warships;
↪ Performing oversight/monitoring activities of the 24/7 emergency response personnel who ensure the safety and security of the Esquimalt harbour;
↪ Managing and supervising personnel of various professional and trade qualifications (this includes performance management, leave management, approval of training plans and other associated activities); and
↪ Direct, manage and coordinate the Sea Readiness Inspection program to ensure King’s Harbour Master (KHM) vessels operate safely within the Canada Shipping Act, Transport Canada Regulation and departmental policy direction.

⚓ The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) is made up of approximately 8,400 Regular Force personnel, 4,100 Reservists and 3,800 civilian employees.
The intent of this process is to fill one (1) English essential indeterminate position in Esquimalt, British Columbia.
The official location of the position (designated worksite) to be staffed is CFB Esquimalt and requires full-time onsite attendance.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
OC1. Possession of a current Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Master, Near Coastal or higher.
OR
Possession of a current Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Chief Mate, Near Coastal AND an acceptable combination of education and experience in marine management and/or marine operations.

EXPERIENCE
EX1. Significant* experience as ship’s Master.
OR
Significant* experience in marine operations and fleet management. Such as personnel leadership, administration, and supervision of ships’ officers and crews.
EX2. Experience coordinating schedules or work plans for self and others. This may include planning, developing, and modifying in times of crew shortages, urgent maintenance requirements, or adverse weather conditions.
EX3. Experience in supervision.
EX4. Experience providing advice, guidance, and recommendations to senior management.
*Significant is defined as approximately 2 years.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
AOC1. Certification in WHMIS for Supervisors.

AEX1. Experience in provision of marine or technical support services to a varied client base.
AEX2. Experience in ship berthing or towing.
AEX3. Experience in Government of Canada marine management and operations as Master of a vessel engaged in Near Coastal voyages.

AEX5. Experience in human resources management in accordance with Government of Canada policies.
