Reporting to the Section Head within the Minor Use Pesticide Program, the Minor Use Project Lead is responsible for leading Good Laboratory practices (GLP) compliant residue studies as well as efficacy/crop tolerance studies, within a science discipline (entomology, pathology, weed science), for the generation of data required to support submissions of new minor uses of pesticides to Health Canada (HC) Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) for approval and registration.
The Pest Management Centre (PMC) is a division within AAFC’s Science and Technology Branch, Coastal Region. The PMC provides benefits to Canadian producers, the environment, and consumers by focusing on:
- Improving growers’ of minor crops access to pest control products, with emphasis on reduced-risk products; and
- providing producers with access to new pest-management technologies to improve their competitiveness domestically and internationally.
The Centre is headquartered in Ottawa with employees located in several AAFC Research and Development Centers across Canada.
The immediate intent is to fill one (1) position in the Pest Management Centre’s Minor Use Pesticide Program.
A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates will be established and may be used to fill similar positions with various tenures, linguistic requirements, security requirements, conditions of employment, and in various locations across Canada.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in biological, natural, or applied science with a specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position including but not limited to: entomology, plant pathology, weed science, integrated pest management, plant biology, horticulture, agronomy, agriculture.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience in managing and conducting scientific studies acquired and applied in a working environment including all of the following:
- experimental planning and designing,
- data collection
- data analysis, and
- data interpretation
Experience in writing and reviewing scientific reports, publications or technical resources, acquired and applied in a working environment.
Experience in conducting pest management research in agricultural production systems.
EDUCATION (ASSET):
Graduation with a Master’s degree and/or a Doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
EXPERIENCE (ASSET) :
Experience conducting plant pathology pest management project(s) /activities in agricultural production systems.
Experience conducting entomology pest management project(s) /activities in agricultural production systems.
Experience conducting weed science pest management project(s) /activities in agricultural production systems.
Experience with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) studies.
Experience managing multi-year projects, with associated personnel management, or contracting duties.
Experience conducting Integrated Pest Management (IPM) research applicable to entomology, plant pathology or weed science, acquired and applied in a working environment.
Experience establishing relationships (e.g., consulting, engaging, negotiating) with stakeholders.
