It is expected that the student will work 25 hours per week. The hourly rate varies depending on the level of experience and (or) education, according to the Treasury Board student rates of pay.
$22.71 to $28.57 per hour (To start July 2023, ending March 2025.)

Duties

The successful candidate will work with the supervisor and team of researchers to help develop a hazard assessment for Mount Garibaldi (Nch’kay), based on field observations, geological sample analyses, and other geological information.

Intent of the process

The intention is to staff one student position for the completion of a Master of Science degree, supervised by Dr. Glyn Williams-Jones, at Simon Fraser University.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

• Currently enrolled or in the process of enrolling at Simon Fraser University in a Master of Science program, specializing in Geoscience, Geology, or Earth Sciences.
• Graduation with a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts, with a specialization in Geosciences, Geology, Earth Sciences, or other relevant specialization from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

In the context of student recruitment in the federal public service, experience can be acquired through studies, work experience or volunteer activities.

• Study or employment experience in studying how magma composition and eruptive conditions can affect volcanic deposits.
• Geological field camp/school or relevant employment experience.
