Duties

Transport Canada’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) Team consists of multi-disciplinary experts responsible for RPAS policy, regulatory development and program implementation including work with industry on RPAS operating approvals. The RPAS Team is seeking a candidate to provide leadership of the RPAS Center of Expertise (RCE), which consists of a dynamic team of 10 subject matter experts across Canada, who work with industry on the issuance of special flight operation certificates, conducts surveillance and performs stakeholder engagement. We are seeking a candidate with experience in aviation, who is able to create vision and implement plans, who has strong interpersonal skills to work with a diverse stakeholder community, and who can effectively problem solve and enable innovation through an assessment of new technologies against safety regulations, standards and risk assessment processes.

Work environment

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work from a Transport Canada office across Canada.

Intent of the process

The results of this process will initially be used to staff one (1) position indeterminately with a CBC/CBC linguistic profile. However, in the case where the chosen candidate would not meet the official language proficiency, a bilingual non imperative appointment could be considered.

A pool of qualified candidates will be established to staff identical or similar positions with various tenures with Transport Canada.

Degree equivalency

✈ OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
• Possession of a valid Aviation Document Booklet.
• Possession of an valid Category 1 Aviation Medical.
• Possession of a Canadian Airline Transport Pilot Licence - Aeroplane Category with a Group 1 Instrument Rating that meets all applicable currency requirements to be able to exercise the privileges of the licence.
• Possession of a Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed Aeronautical).

OR

• Possession of a valid Aviation Document Booklet.
• Possession of an valid Category 1 Aviation Medical.
• Possession of a Canadian Commercial Pilot Licence - Helicopter Category with a Group IV Instrument Rating that meets all applicable currency requirements to be able to exercise the privileges of the licence.

✈ EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience working in aircraft using advanced technology.
EX2: Experience in analyzing complex situations and making recommendations.

AEX3: Experience exercising Ministerial Authority under the Aeronautics Act and the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
AEX4: Experience with remotely piloted aircraft systems.
