ISED is transitioning to a hybrid work environment to leverage the best of both in-person and virtual work to deliver results. To foster a dynamic environment for purposeful in-person connections, most employees will be working part time at their designated ISED worksite on a weekly basis, and the remainder of the time from their telework location. However, given the nature of this job, it is performed full-time on-site.

Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to staff 16 positions on an indeterminate basis. A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions within Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada with various linguistics profiles (Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB and English essential) and with indeterminate tenure. Non-Imperative bilingual staffing option may be used if needed.

EDUCATION:

Graduation from a recognized college or technical school in a field relevant to the duties of the position (e.g. physics, chemistry, engineering, electrical, electronics, mechanical, instrumentation technology) or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Recent experience in using typical information technology office software such as, but not limited to, the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

Information on language requirements

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of the theories and principles of sciences such as physics, chemistry, electricity, electronics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, chromatography or metrology.

COMPETENCIES:

Working effective with others, demonstrating integrity and respect, showing initiative and being action-oriented and judgment.

ABILITIES:

-Ability to communicate in writing.
-Ability to communicate orally.

EDUCATION:

Graduation from a recognized university with a degree in a discipline related to the business of metrology, e.g. sciences, engineering.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

-Experience in the application and conduct of examinations and tests of measuring instruments (volumetric; gravimetric; electricity; or natural gas measurement).
-Experience in working in science-based teams, working under a Quality Management Systems (QMS) or working in a laboratory environment.

OTHER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

-Occasional overtime.
-Ability to regularly lift and carry, without mechanical aids, test equipment and individual weights weighing up to 25 kg to perform tests.
-Possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle(s) they are authorized to operate and to which they are assigned, in compliance with the appropriate provincial or territorial law.
-Occasional travel for periods of 1 to 2 weeks at a time and often on short notice.
