By joining our team, you will have opportunity to provide direct support to health services and community based programming. You will build and support strong working relationships with First Nations and Inuit communities, families, and individuals, with a focus on improving health outcomes and reducing health risks.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff one indeterminate position.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various requirements as well as tenures (Acting, Assignment, Deployment, Secondment, Determinate, and Indeterminate appointments) and/or the security clearance (reliability or secret), which may vary according to the position being staffed.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology, statistics.

Notes:
1.Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
2.An indeterminate incumbent of a former ES position on June 30, 1967 who became an EC on June 22, 2009, who does not possess the minimum level of education as indicated for Part A above is deemed to meet this minimum educational standard based on his/her education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Experience in the application of epidemiologic methods.
• Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.
• Experience in data management with expertise in SPSS, SAS, Stata or EpiInfo.
• Experience in data management, including data preparation and quality control.
• Experience extracting, manipulating and summarizing data.

• Ability to apply methodology appropriate to the design and implementation of epidemiologic activities.
• Ability to research, evaluate, and collate statistical information from multiple sources.

• Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software tools such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
• Graduation with a Master’s or PhD degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in statistics, epidemiology, community health science, public health, or biostatistics.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Experience with analysis of administrative health databases.
• Experience with public health surveillance information collection and analysis (immunization, communicable disease, outbreak management).
• Experience in preparing data/information sharing agreements.
• Experience in multi-jurisdictional health information projects.
• Experience in mapping.
• Experience in Microsoft Access.
• Experience in data modeling.

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of the mandate and priorities of the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch and regional programs.
• Knowledge of First Nations health governance, information initiatives and issues.
• Knowledge of policies and legislation around privacy, information sharing, and privacy impact assessments.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
