Duties

Key activities of the Teacher of French as a Second Language include (but are not limited to):

↪ Presenting language courses to groups of students in a physical or virtual setting (if needed);
↪ Developing, evaluating and implementing lesson plans and pedagogical exercises;
↪ Testing students' language skills and monitoring progress;
↪ and preparing students for language tests by giving practical interviews and exercises.

📚 The Naval Personnel and Training Group (NPTG) under which the Language Training Center Atlantic (LTC(A)) falls is the Navy’s principle Command for education, training and operational personnel management. Specifically, LTC(A)’s mission is to deliver all levels of language training effectively and professionally in both official languages in order to promote functional bilingualism in CAF members while helping them meet their career and personal goals. LTC(A) consists of a French and an English department with a small, diverse and multiethnic team of engaged and dedicated teachers and supporting staff.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill one (1) position on a term (temporary) basis in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

❗❗ This is a one (1) year term opportunity, with the possibility of becoming indeterminate (permanent)

❗❗ Full time on-site (office setting) work will be required. The position is currently located at CFB Halifax but will move to CFB Shearwater (12 Wing Shearwater) in Summer 2023.

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions in various locations with various employment tenures, language profiles, security requirements and conditions of employment.

EDUCATION
ED1. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Education, Linguistics, French Language and Literature or some other specialty relevant to the position in the classification.

Note: When education is required, candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
