We are looking for dynamic candidates that will help shape and build the future of Transport Canada. The persons selected will have the opportunity to increase their experience and expertise.
Here are the main tasks of the Railway Inspector:
1. Participates in the design, development, and implementation of the Railway Safety regulatory compliance program.
2. Assists in the design, development and delivery of safety education and awareness programs for internal and external stakeholders, including the public.
3. Participates in the development of new regulations, standards, and associated
guidelines, policies, and procedures.
4. Performs safety data analysis services (i.e., trend analysis, risk assessment), business and operational planning, results measurement, and program evaluation; and provides pertinent advice and recommendations to the management of the Railway Safety Directorate.
5. Provides expert subject matter technical advice and guidance to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including the public on railway oversight programs.
6. Participates in internal and external working groups, project teams, consultation committees and other initiatives on matters related to railway safety; and develops and maintains a consultative and authoritative network of contacts to promote a safe and secure national transportation system in Canada.
7. Provides and supports formal and informal workplace learning and knowledge transfer through various means including job shadowing, coaching, and mentoring. Participates in the inspection of railway infrastructure; and initiates or recommends compliance and enforcement actions or measures for alleged infractions to the Railway Safety Act (RSA), and related regulations and standards.

EDUCATION
• A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in the railway field.
EXPERIENCES
• Significant experience* with a Canadian railway company in construction and maintenance of railway tracks as a supervisor or track inspector or in an equivalent field position with a railway contractor or supplier.
* “Significant experience” refers to at least 2 years of experience within the last 10 years.
• Experience in the evaluation of track conditions and compliance with Canadian standards as a track inspector or track specialist.
Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB)

• Willingness and ability to travel for extended periods of time, using all modes of transportation, throughout the region and – on occasion – outside the region.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime, including nights and weekends, including stand-by.
• Willingness and ability to work in inclement weather conditions.
• Willingness and ability to work alone in isolated areas.
• This position requires, on occasion, physical effort to climb railway structures, equipment, or facilities on sites where the access is difficult, and the terrain is rugged.
