Duties

- Senior Business Issues Management Advisor: The key activities entail; identifying, researching, evaluating, developing, amending, recommending, analyzing matters of concern affecting the day-to-day business of the Department in region with regards to policies, practices, business transactions, trends, emerging issues, government announcements, and activities and providing guidance to Senior Management at the Department level, central agencies, and with Other federal departments and other level of government (EX2 - EX5) and the general public.

- Strategic Management Advisor: The key activities entail; Conducts, and/or facilitates research and analysis of emerging issues of significance to the region; develops options/recommendations, prepares summary reports and supporting documentation; maintains a library of resource material and work instruments in support of the strategic, operational & business-line matters and issues.

Intent of the process

A qualified pool of candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar AS-04 positions within Public Services and Procurement Canada, with various tenures (Indeterminate, Acting, Term, Deployment, Assignment, Secondment).

Applications will be assessed on depth and breadth, based on the position to be staffed, and the information you provide in your application and/or throughout your assessment.

EDUCATION:
- A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.

The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
- A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
- An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
- Experience providing advice and recommendations on complex issues**.
- Experience managing multiple simultaneous priorities in a client service environment.

** Complex issues are issues with at least two (2) of the following characteristics: sensitive, confidential, affecting many partners or stakeholders, have an impact on operational service delivery. Candidates need to clearly demonstrate the complexity.

- Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in social science, business administration, commerce or others relevant to the specialities of the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in the writing, preparation, editing or quality control of briefing products* for management** at any level.
- Ability to conduct research and analyze information from multiple sources.
- Experience in strategic planning or applying business planning and reporting processes.
- Experience managing projects.
- Experience facilitating meetings or discussions.
- Experience with applying Access to Information and Privacy Policy legislation.

*Briefing products are defined as updates on issues and/or progress related to projects, initiatives or business processes; briefing notes, one-pagers, Ministerial correspondence, QP notes.
**Management is defined as manager, Regional Director, or departmental equivalent or higher level.
