EDUCATION
Successful completion of secondary school OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Possess a valid Alberta or Interprovincial Journeyman’s Certificate in one of the following trades: Plumbing, Millwright, Carpentry, or Electrical.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment in support of institution with mechanical, electrical, fire protection and energy management systems.
Experience in general labour work such as light construction, renovation, drywall, repairs, painting or flooring repairs.
Experience in the safe operation and repair of a variety of shop tools such as welding and pipe threading machines, band, table, chop saws or drill press.
Experience in operating small equipment such as skid steer, fork lift or weed eater.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Willing and able to work overtime including weekends.
Willing and able to work in tight, cramped and/or confined spaces
Willing and able to work on ladders and at heights.
Willing and able to lift 20.5 Kg (45 lbs).
Willing and able to use personal protective equipment (PPE).
Willing and able to undertake job specific training

Information on language requirements
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of refrigeration units or auxiliary pumps or re-circulation systems or electric motors or HVAC auxiliary equipment.
Knowledge of the applicable preventative maintenance procedures of mechanical systems.
ABILITIES
Ability to perform running maintenance, minor repair and troubleshoot various types of equipment such as fan, pumps and controls.
Ability to read and perform tasks outlined in technical manuals.
Ability to perform general scheduled building maintenance (eg. water fountains filter change and cleaning, cleaning out the sump pits, overhead door maintenance)
Ability to multi task, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
