Intent of the process

The current requirement is to fill one (1) Marine Aids Technician - Electrician position.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established from this process to fill identical or similar positions within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard with employment tenures, language requirements, security requirements and work locations that may vary depending on the needs of the positions being staffed.

EDUCATION
ED1: Diploma of studies related to electricity or electronics (e.g. D.E.P in construction or maintenance electricity or electromechanics) or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and/or electronic installations and equipment.

KNOWLEDGE
K1: Knowledge of the operation of electrical and/or electronic installations and equipment.
K2: Knowledge of the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the application of occupational health and safety rules.

AB1: Ability to interpret plans and specifications as well as electrical code.
AB2: Ability to detect and correct problems on electrical and/or electronic installations and equipment.
AB3: Ability to communicate effectively orally.
AB4: Ability to plan and organize field work.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION (ASSET)
Certificate of competence in electricity.
ASP Construction card with WHMIS mention.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE (ASSET)
AEX1: Experience using Maximo software, assets management or any other databases.
AEX2: Experience in the installation and maintenance of electronic or electrical equipment used in marine aids to navigation systems.

KNOWLEDGE (ASSET)
AK1: Knowledge of the operation of various generator sets.

Reliability Status security clearance

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Hold a valid Class 5 driver's licence recognized in Québec and agree to drive a motor vehicle;
- Have passed the Health Canada medical examination;
- Willingness and ability to climb and work on structures (towers) up to 36 metres (120 ft) high;
- Willingness and ability to do hard work on sometimes rough terrain and bad weather;
- Willingness and ability to travel for periods of up to 3 weeks, exceptionally up to 6 weeks and to travel by various modes of transportation including helicopters or small boats.
- Willingness and ability to complete administrative tasks using a computer such as producing short equipment condition reports, entering information into a database, completing expense reports, etc.
