FISH AND HABITAT PROTECTION BIOLOGIST:
Provide evidence-based advice to avoid, mitigate, offset, and restore impacts of development projects on fish and fish habitat; integrate fish and fish habitat protection objectives into freshwater and coastal planning processes; and enable the protection and conservation of fish habitats in support of the Fish and Fish Habitat Protection Program.
SPECIES AT RISK BIOLOGIST:
Assist in the planning, preparation and participation in meetings with Indigenous groups, industry and provincial partners; coordinate multiple projects for the Species at Risk program; synthesize scientific data and information from multiple internal and external sources; participate in the writing and review of technical documents related to the protection and recovery of species at risk; facilitate and develop partnerships in order to better coordinate and/or assist in the implementation of management plans, recovery strategies and/or action plans for species at risk.
MARINE PLANNING AND CONSERVATION BIOLOGIST:
Coordinate or participate in the writing, compilation and review of various technical or policy documents related to oceans management issues. Assist in advancing initiatives related to marine protected area planning and management, marine spatial planning, and marine environmental quality including coordinate and/or participate in meetings with internal partners, with provincial and federal partners, with Indigenous groups and with industry associations on oceans management issues.
AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES BIOLOGIST:
Provide technical expertise and advice as it relates to the four main pillars of the Department’s Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Program, including Prevention, Early Detection, Response, and Control and Management within the Gulf Region. This includes undertaking necessary research/analysis of technical documents and materials, reviewing risks and measures to mitigate threats, characterization of impacts to indigenous species/biodiversity and the ability to formulate recommendations to Senior Management on control and management activities by the Department and external partners. The position also requires occasional field and laboratory work.
Position Location: The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) will be following the direction from the Office of the Chief Human Resource Officer on the introduction of a common hybrid work model across the federal public service. This common hybrid work model will consist of work on site at least 2–3 days each week, or 40–60% of their regular schedule. The immediate intent is to staff one indeterminate position in Moncton, NB. EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a biological, natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience working on projects related to natural resources management or in a regulatory context.
• Experience in managing biology related projects and respecting timelines.
• Experience in preparing written correspondence, briefing materials or scientific documents.
Various language requirements
