Duties

We are looking for a student interested in applying for an M.Sc. position to investigate the deglacial history of a vastly under researched area with significant implications on the configuration of the eastern Laurentide Ice Sheet (LIS). The study area location is in coastal Labrador, with remote field sites accessible only by helicopter. This project will utilize a multiproxy approach combining multiple methods to constrain the timing of deglaciation for the region. This project will involve mapping the region’s surficial sediments and geomorphology and using established methods to constrain the timing and levels of glaciomarine inundation to ultimately reconstruct the deglacial history and how that relates to the regional deglaciation of the LIS.

• Currently enrolled or willing to enroll at a Canadian University in a Master of Science program with specialization relevant to the duties of the position.
• Graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Geology, Earth Sciences, Geosciences, or other relevant specialization from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
In the context of student recruitment in the federal public service, experience can be acquired through studies, work experience or volunteer activities.
• Experience working in the outdoors
• Experience participating in a field course or equivalent

Conditions of employment

• Willingness to work outdoors, in remote regions, and under occasional adverse conditions (inclement weather, insects, etc.).
• The duration of the project will take place over two years between 2023 and 2025.
