Education
• Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural (includes physics and chemistry) or engineering (such as Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering) related to the duties of the position
Experience
• Productivity or recognition in scientific research as demonstrated by achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, patents, conference proceedings or other communications resulting from scientific research and development.
• Experience in Hydrogen Embrittlement research focusing on the hydrogen interaction with steel microstructure and property degradation. Results have been published in theses or scientific literature.
• Research experience in physical metallurgy of steels that includes topics such as microstructure characterization, mechanical properties assessment, modelling of microstructure evolution and properties prediction. Results have been published in theses or scientific literature.
• Experience in collaborative research with universities, governments or science-based non-government organizations (provide specific bibliographic references).

Information on language requirements
Knowledge
• Knowledge of fundamentals of materials science and physical metallurgy with focus on structure/property relationships.
• In-depth knowledge of the metallurgy, microstructure evolution and processing of steels particularly pertaining to line pipe steels.
• Knowledge of the underlying science of hydrogen interaction with steel and the resulting properties degradation.

• Ability to conceive and conduct research projects to address scientific/industrial challenges or opportunities.
• Ability to interpret scientific observations to develop models that explain materials response and performance.

Asset Qualifications:
• Experience in conducting materials research in the production, transportation, utilization, and storage of hydrogen gas.
• Knowledge of codes and standards related to pipelines.
• Knowledge of welding and joining processes with focus on relationships between welding parameters, microstructures and properties of welds specific to the pipelines
• Experience in conducting advanced characterization of steels such as APT, HEXRD, quantitative EBSD
