Work environment

First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB), Indigenous Services Canada, is recruiting Registered Nurses to provide quality, evidence-informed nursing services, respectful of culture and intended to enhance the health of First Nations people in Alberta. The maintenance of cultural competence and the provision of culturally safe care are paramount in these areas of practice.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff an indeterminate full-time position.

A pool of qualified or partially assessed candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment, various tenures (acting, assignment/secondment, deployment, term and/or indeterminate), and in various locations within Alberta.

  • As a nurse working with the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch, how would you support and apply the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action, particularly those related to healthcare, in your professional life and within your work unit?

    This question will be used to assess the following qualifications:

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Eligibility for registration as a Registered Nurse in a province or territory of Canada

EXPERIENCE:
Recent and significant* experience as a Registered Nurse in Public Health or Home & Community Care

Experience as a Registered Nurse in leadership roles (such as leading a multi-disciplinary team, managing a program, leading a nursing unit or medical clinic) in Public Health or Home & Community Care

*Recent and significant is defined as the performance of full-time duties for a minimum period of 3 years within the last 5 years

ASSET CRITERIA

EDUCATION:
A Master’s degree in Nursing or a field related to health

Degree equivalency

Experience in Mental Health
Experience delivering presentations or facilitating groups
Experience working in outpost or remote settings
Experience working with First Nations communities

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
BLS certification (renewed annually)
Travel to rural or remote locations on gravel roads
Willingness and ability to work overtime on occasion
Willingness and ability to work overtime in the event of a public health emergency or outbreak
Willingness to relocate to Alberta

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Possession of a valid driver’s licence
Continuous professional registration, without conditions or restrictions, with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta
