Work environment

At AAFC, we strive to create an environment where diversity and inclusion are at the forefront. We believe our organization is most effective when it reflects the Canadian populations it serves. We value the unique talents and experiences of all employees.

As one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers, AAFC has several diversity and inclusion networks, dedicated to ensuring that we continue to grow as an inclusive, respectful and diverse workplace. Regardless of whether you are a member of the diversity groups, all employees are welcomed to join the Networks and participate in their activities and events.

Supports specific to persons with disabilities include:
-The Persons with Disabilities Network (PwDN): a safe space to share experiences, obtain support and drive culture change. It strives to actively promote disability inclusion by identifying barriers, raising awareness, and supporting government initiatives that promote accessibility confidence. The PwDN helps transform AAFC's workplace culture, policies and programs towards an accessibility-first mindset.
-The Accessibility Passport: a new Government of Canada tool being introduced to all departments that keeps track of what accommodations you need. It is a document you can update as needed and fully owned by the employee (you choose who has access to it). The purpose of this tool is to avoid the need to renegotiate workplace accommodations with new managers or when changing jobs within the government.

AAFC employees are given the opportunity to grow and reach their full potential through various programs and training. By providing flexible work arrangements and appropriate accommodations, all employees are able to continually thrive within our organization. AAFC offers an excellent work-life balance with competitive salary, generous vacation, paid leave for family and health, comprehensive benefits, and an attractive pension plan.

AAFC has begun its Transition Plan to Hybrid Work. Many employees are currently required to report to an AAFC office building at least once a week. Gradually, by April 1, 2023, employees will be required to work from the office at least two days a week and will have the option to telework the rest of the week, subject to operational requirements. Exceptions to this requirement may be made on a case-by-case basis.
