Calling all biologists! Looking to cast your line into new waters? Department of Fisheries and Oceans Pacific Species at Risk Program is looking to recruit enthusiastic people to join its salmon, marine, and freshwater operational teams at the BI-02 and BI-03 levels.
We are seeking Biologists to help advance work on the conservation and management of aquatic species at risk and their habitats for future generations. Our work to recover and protect species at risk connects the science, operational planning, and policy worlds, so we will be welcoming those that can apply their science background and operational know-how, as well as put on their policy hats! You will have the chance to work on files that benefit species in British Columbia, Yukon, and beyond, ranging from rare snails, iconic salmons to charismatic killer whales!
Your job may require you to:
• Develop regional listing information on species assessed at risk by COSEWIC
• Write recovery documents for listed species
• Issue scientific permits for listed species
• Coordinate implementation of recovery measures for listed species and evaluating progress
• Lead or support engagement and consultation activities with stakeholders, Indigenous communities and organizations
• Support grant and contribution programs

Education
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in a biological science;
or
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
Experience
• Experience working in conservation or management of aquatic species and ecosystems, wildlife conservation, natural resource management, or with environmental issues.
• Experience assessing, synthesizing or analyzing science-based information from a variety of sources.
• Experience providing or contributing to developing science-based advice and recommendations.
• Experience providing status updates, briefings or presentations.
• Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships or partnerships with stakeholders, Indigenous communities, or organizations (BI-03 only).
Note: BI-02 and BI-03 positions: Recent experience is required for all experience factors above and is defined as performing the duties within the last 5 years.
BI-03 positions: Significant experience is required for all experience factors above and is defined as depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of the duties for a period of approximately 2 years on a full-time basis.

• Willingness and ability to work overtime on occasion, including weekends.
• Willingness and ability to travel. Travel may be to remote locations by various modes of transportation.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in a biological science or other field related to the duties of the position.
Experience:
• Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships or partnerships with stakeholders, Indigenous communities, or organizations (BI-02; essential for BI-03)
• Experience in writing technical reports or other similar publications.
• Experience in developing or implementing policies and other products such as guidelines and regulations.
• Experience in the conservation, recovery, or listing of species at risk.
• Experience conducting scientific research projects on freshwater and/or marine ecosystems.
• Experience supervising staff (BI-03 only).
• Experience managing budgets (BI-03 only).
Abilities
• Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.
• Ability to analyze scientific/technical information in a legislative or program context and make recommendations.
• Ability to plan, coordinate and participate in multidisciplinary processes.
