Duties

Support the development of national seismic hazard models and earthquake hazard provisions. Organize and maintain seismic hazard models and results. Perform seismic hazard calculations using existing tools and software. Contribute to the development of new tools and scripts. Respond to internal and external client enquiries concerning earthquakes and earthquake hazard. As member of a roster of duty seismologists, provide rapid authoritative information on earthquakes to clients, media and the general public.

Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of (fully or partially) qualified candidates will be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), with various linguistic requirement and for various bilingual linguistic profiles, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Education
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, geophysics or some other science relevant to the position.

Note:
The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Degree equivalency

Experience
EEX1: Experience contributing to seismic hazard analyses or to the elements of a seismic hazard model (e.g., ground motion models, characterization of seismic sources, site amplification studies).
EEX2: Experience in scientific programming.
EEX3: Experience in analysing scientific information and writing scientific reports.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Masters in Science from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Geophysics or another discipline related to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience
AEX1: Experience in Python, Matlab or similar scripting packages.
AEX2: Experience performing or contributing to probabilistic seismic hazard assessments.
AEX3: Experience leading or managing scientific projects.
AEX4: Experience with probabilistic seismic hazard analysis software or tools (e.g., OpenQuake).
AEX5: Experience working with and manipulating large geospatial datasets in a Geographic Information System (GIS), or similar, framework.
