Assessment accommodation

Duties

Reporting directly to a Manager of Advisory Services within the Privacy Management Division at Health Canada, the Privacy Advisor will provide advice and guidance to clients on privacy matters, investigate privacy breaches, draft privacy notice statements, support the development of privacy protocols, support communication and outreach activities in support of the division’s stakeholder relations and promotional strategies, and streamline internal standard operational procedures.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff a minimum of three indeterminate positions.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, various linguistic requirements, various security requirements and for various locations within Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada. Should the selected candidate already be a public servant, the pool could also be used for acting appointments, secondments, assignments and deployments.

EDUCATION

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

1. Recent* experience interpreting legislation, policies, procedures, processes or guidelines for clients, internal stakeholders or management.
2. Experience in providing advice and recommendations to internal stakeholders or management.
3. Recent* and significant** experience with issue identification and remediation.
4. Experience preparing reports for clients or management***.
5. Experience developing communication products (such as emails, posters or presentations).

* Recent experience is defined as experience acquired within the last 3 years.
** Significant experience as having performed this task consistently over a period of 5 years.
*** Management is defined as immediate supervisor, team lead, manager or equivalent.

ASSET EDUCATION

1. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field related to the position.

2. Completion of a certification in Information Access and Protection of Privacy (IAPP) such as, a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) or a Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) or University of Alberta Information Access and Protection of Privacy certificate program.

Degree equivalency

ASSET EXPERIENCE

1. Experience in providing advice and recommendations to clients on privacy related issues.
2. Significant*** experience working in Privacy
3. Significant*** experience working in Access to Information
4. Experience updating Info Source or personal information banks.
5. Experience assessing and recommending mitigation for organisational risks.
6. Experience investigating privacy or security breaches.

***Significant experience is defined as having performed these tasks as their primary duties on a full-time basis for a period of approximately three (3) years within the last five (5) years.
