Assessment accommodation

Duties

Overview of key responsibilities outlined below are including but not limited to:

• Participates in operational policing activities such as search warrants, digital forensic acquisitions.
• Examines electronic devices / technology such as personal computers, cellular phones, mobile devices, etc.
• Plans, implements, maintains, tests, integrates and applies specialized digital forensic tools
• Conducts research, testing, and reverse engineering of workable solutions to problems
• Installs, maintains, and manages hardware, software, servers, personal computers, etc.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill one indeterminate IT-02/SPICT-02 vacancy in London, Ontario. A pool of candidates may be established to staff same or similar positions at various locations.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.
Note:
Indeterminate incumbents in the IT group on December 9, 2021 who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.
Indeterminate incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.
At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

Degree equivalency

• Experience in building and maintaining personal computers
• Experience in using various mobile devices
• Experience in maintaining network systems including data storage, servers and backup systems.
• Experience troubleshooting and/or problem solving with at least three of the following operating system platforms: Android, iOS, Windows, Linux or Macintosh.
• Experience preparing technical reports.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

• Experience using forensics tools such as X-Ways, Cellebrite, Magnet Forensics.
• Experience in managing Windows Server (including legacy Windows Server) environment.
• Experience in managing a virtualized server infrastructure.
• Experience extracting and conducting analyses of electronic data.

Willingness and ability to work overtime, as required.
Willingness and ability to work shift work (24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year).
Willing and able to work in person at the office where the position is located

Conditions of employment

Top Secret security clearance - Willingness and ability to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.
Willingness and ability to provide expert testimony in court.
Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes using various modes of transportation.
Willingness and ability to maintain a valid class G driver's license.
Successful completion of the Technological Crime Understudy Program and continuous study in the field of digital forensics.

Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain an RCMP security clearance may involve but is not limited to a security/reliability interview and a field investigation which includes matters of criminal activity, verification of credit/financial status, reference checks, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.

Reference checks may be sought.

An interview may be administered.

A test may be administered.

Indeterminate employees at the same group and level or equivalent will be considered for deployment. If no deployment is made, applicants from other groups and levels will be considered in the advertised appointment process.

You must provide proof of your education credentials.

A random and/or top down selection of candidates may be used in the determination of those to be given further consideration in the assessment process.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
