Duties

DFO has begun work on advancing a federal response to address Pacific salmon declines, including a long-term strategy for Pacific salmon to more effectively address the steeply declining trends in many Pacific salmon stocks. Under the Pacific Salmon Strategy Initiative (PSSI), several interrelated initiatives have been designed to achieve a commercial Pacific salmon fishery that is biologically sustainable, is better positioned financially, and is capable of generating economic and social benefits for harvesters and communities.

As a Habitat Restoration Technician, you will support a group of Engineers and Biologists in the creation, protection and maintenance of salmon habitat. Your work will involve field visits for data gathering, topographic surveying, and design work for habitat projects. Maintenance and repair of existing habitat projects will also form a significant part of your duties. Bringing your knowledge and skills you will assist in the conception, planning and design of habitat projects. You will also have the ability to lead and manage field habitat construction projects. Advice and support to third party projects will also be part of your duties. A willingness to learn and use new and emerging technologies such as UAV’s, and mapping software is a must. You will bring office skills using AutoCAD, and other software, but you will also enjoy working outdoors in the natural environment. You have a willingness to travel and work long hours when necessary.
