Work environment

Diversity and inclusion are foundational values at Transport Canada and are core to who we are. Transport Canada is made up of people from across Canada – people of different genders, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, members of racialized groups and the 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities. As a Department, we strive to become an organization where everyone feels that their voice, views, values and life experiences are heard. Having a department that is both reflective and representative of the demographics we serve enables us to incorporate various perspectives, opinions and experiences to help deliver stronger policies, programs and services to all Canadian.

Transport Canada employs over 6,000 talented and motivated employees working in the Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, Prairie and Northern, Pacific regions, and at our Ottawa headquarters. We develop policies and enforce acts and regulations that support transportation efficiency, safety, security, durability, and align with global standards. Our vision is of a safe, secure, durable, innovative and integrated transportation system that supports trade and economic growth, a cleaner environment and the wellbeing of all Canadians. Our transformation agenda thrives to adopt new ways of thinking about how we deliver services and oversee the transportation system in Canada.

To that end, the selection committee will be representational of employment equity groups and equity deserving communities, and each board member will have completed the Inclusive Hiring Practices for a Diverse Workforce training.

HYBRID WORK
The new Government of Canada requirement to work at a designated worksite at least two to three times per week, or 40% to 60% of regular schedule, is consistent with our hybrid approach and flexibility.

Each employee, no matter their work status, requires a Work Arrangement Agreement (WAA) that must be developed in conjunction with their manager. As you complete your Work Arrangement Agreement with your manager, you will need to ensure alignment with your Team Charter, the strategic direction of your branch or region, and TC's vision and strategy.

Intent of the process

Transport Canada is dedicated to building an inclusive workforce with a diversity of experiences, perspectives and backgrounds that represents Canada now and in the future. In order to achieve this goal, the selection committee will only consider applicants who self-identify as members of one or more of the Employment Equity designated groups: Aboriginal (Indigenous) peoples, people with disabilities, or members of visible minorities.

Transport Canada's EC Recruitment and Development Program (ECRDP) was created to allow dedicated employees to advance their careers at TC from the EC-02 level to the EC-05 level through a clear platform that fosters the development of skills, experience and competencies required to perform efficiently in EC positions and to pursue a successful career path. The program provides employees with valuable training and developmental opportunities tailored to their needs that allow them to grow and advance at their own pace, create solid networks of personal and professional contacts, and broaden their knowledge of various responsibilities across the department. Each hiring manager is responsible to determine if the position will be included in the ECRDP.
