The intent of this process is to staff one (1) indeterminate position in Edmonton.
This process could be used to staff anticipatory position in Winnipeg, Calary, Saskatoon or Yellowknife.
A pool of qualified candidates may be created to staff similar positions with various tenures (indeterminate, specified period, deployment, assignment, secondment, acting, acting extensions) within Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Education:
Successful completion of post-secondary school diploma (includes community college, CEGEP, technical college or university) related to the duties of the position (e.g. Chemistry, biology, environmental studies, police sciences, law, natural resource law enforcement or criminology) OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Significant* experience in enforcing legislation with an armed law enforcement agency.
Experience in planning, leading and conducting inspections or investigations.
Experience in establishing and maintaining partnerships with other regulatory agencies to conduct inspections or investigations
Experience participating in reviewing policies, regulations, legislation or enforcement strategies.
* Significant experience is defined as the working experience acquired over a period of approximately five years.
Asset Qualifications
Experience in investigations that implement or utilize the major case management (MCM) techniques.
Experience in enforcing legislation with an environmental law enforcement agency.
Experience working as a peace officer
Experience working in remote locations and in extreme northern environments.
Experience working with first nations and aboriginal communities.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of provisions of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and of the Criminal Code as it pertains to Environment Canada’s Enforcement Program.
Knowledge of inspection and investigation techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of the enforcement provisions of the Canada Wildlife Act, the Species at Risk Act, the Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994, and the Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of International and Interprovincial Trade Act and the regulations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Successfully complete and maintain an occupational health assessment, including both physical and psychological evaluations.
• Requirement to wear departmental uniform, body armour, officer safety equipment including restricted and prohibited weapons.
• Wildlife Enforcement Officers are required to carry a sidearm and must be able to pass initial training and annual recertification.
• Officers are required to carry a restricted and prohibited weapons and must be able to pass initial training and annual recertification.
• Requirement to successfully complete Basic Enforcement Training
• Requirement to travel by small vessel, aircraft, off-road vehicle and travel over rough terrain and water.
• Requirement to travel and be available to do so
• May be required to be on call, work weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, irregular hours, shift work, and overtime as required and be available to do so.
• Successful completion of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course
• Willing to obtain and maintain First-Aid/CPR training.
