Salary, Allowances, and Benefits:
In addition to salary, you are entitled to an isolated posts allowance. This can range from $26,770 to $44,616 per year, depending on the number of dependants, geographic location and whether the accommodation is provided by the Crown. You are also entitled to vacation travel allowance of approximately $1,500 twice a year for you and each eligible dependant.
As a federal government employee, you will also receive a comprehensive benefit package including an employee pension plan and health, dental and group insurance.
The successful candidate would be working with a small team responsible for leading the Department’s interventions during reviews of environmental assessment reports for major resource development and infrastructure projects pursuant to the Nunavut Agreement (formerly known as the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement) and the Nunavut Planning and Project Assessment Act.
This process will be used to fill current vacancies and to establish a pool of qualified candidates for future opportunities. It may also be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (Deployment, Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Term or Indeterminate) within Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) with various security requirements (reliability or secret).
By default, and in the interest of the greater public service, pools created as a result of staffing processes at CIRNAC may be shared with other government departments.

Your résumé.
The following criteria will be assessed using your resume and the online screening questions. To be selected, you must demonstrate when, where and how you acquired each of the qualifications by giving concrete examples.
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in environmental science, environmental/civil engineering, physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.
• Significant* experience in conducting technical review of development project applications to characterize potential impacts and mitigations to large scale development projects.
• Experience reviewing technical reports, and providing expert advice, related to environmental projects.
• Experience leading complex projects involving several participants such as consultants or partners or stakeholders.
*Significant means a minimum of two (2) years’ experience within the last five (5) years.

• Master degree in relevant field.
• Experience mentoring or coaching people.
• Experience participating in environmental impact assessment processes for major development projects in a Northern environment.
• Experience chairing or leading committees or workshops or community meetings.
• Experience working in a cross-cultural environment, specifically as it relates to Inuit culture and values.
• Experience working in a northern environment.

The following criteria are essential for the job and will be assessed later using different assessment methods (written exam, interview, reference check, etc.).
• General knowledge of the northern biophysical environment and of the principles of sustainable development.
• Knowledge of process steps and important concepts in completion of environmental impact assessments for major development project.
• General knowledge of federal environmental legislation or regulation or policy and governance related to resource management in Nunavut.
• Ability to analyze environmental data and critique technical reports related to environmental management.
• Ability to lead multi-disciplinary scientific and technical reviews with respect to potential impacts to water.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally.
• Ability to manage contractual arrangements.
• Ability to apply Article 12 or 13 of the Nunavut Agreement to a project scenario.
