Reporting to the Regional Manager, Health and Safety, the incumbent is responsible for the operations within the Fire Prevention Program.
The successful candidate will:
• Conduct onsite fire and life safety inspections and/or site audits of sites and buildings to ensure code compliance; this requires that you may need to travel, are willing and able to work overtime, sometimes on short notice, possibly on evenings and weekends
• Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) demonstrating best work practices when on site;
• Provide advice, guidance, and recommendations regarding OHS aspects of fire safety and the fire prevention program;
• Ensure compliance with all applicable codes and regulations that relate to fire protection in federal workplaces;
• Review site specific emergency evacuation plans to ensure they are comprehensive and complete;
• Liaise with federal, provincial and/or territorial administrations responsible for fire prevention to obtain accurate interpretations as related to fire safety;
• Provide training to support the Fire Prevention Program;
• Advise on design concepts related to fire safety and interpretation of legislation and standards;
• Provide expert feedback into departmental policies and procedures.

Successful completion of post-secondary school diploma in fire protection or employer approved alternate such as an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in the field of fire prevention.
Experience conducting building fire and life safety inspections within the last five (5) years.
Experience applying federal, provincial and/or municipal building and fire codes
Experience providing advice and guidance on fire prevention best practices.

Recognized post-secondary degree or diploma with a specialization in building sciences (architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil).
Certification or eligibility for certification as a fire inspector, fire and explosion investigator, and/or fire protection specialist.
Experience developing and presenting training/information awareness sessions.
