Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one indeterminate Electrical Discipline Engineer, with an English Essential language requirement, in one of the following locations: Halifax, NS, Moncton, NB, Charlottetown, PE, or St. John’s, NL.

A pool of candidates will be created and could be used to staff similar positions within Public Services and Procurement Canada, with various language requirements, security profiles, tenures and in various locations. As a result of the potential and possible use of the selection process and subsequent pool by hiring managers, you are encouraged to apply to be considered for future vacancies.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

Certification as a professional engineer in Canada.

EXPERIENCE

Significant* experience analysing and designing electrical engineered systems, site assessments and site inspections of electrical systems in buildings **.

Significant* experience providing full electrical engineering services such as preparing drawings, specifications, reports, condition assessments and tender documents of electrical systems in buildings **.

Significant* experience reviewing and providing advice or feedback on the work of other professionals relating to design or quality of design of electrical systems in buildings **.

Experience performing quality assurance reviews of electrical designs, drawings, and specifications of electrical systems in buildings**.

Experience providing electrical design or technical advice to management, project managers or clients.

* Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be associated with the performance of these duties for an approximate period of ten (10) years. The experience listed above can be in new construction and/or renovation projects and range from moderate to major complexity projects.

**Electrical systems in buildings is defined as systems to be found in most commercial occupancy, and office accommodation buildings such as power distribution; lighting and lighting controls; communication network cabling; fire alarm; emergency/backup power distribution; and security systems (door access control; camera surveillance; and intrusion).

ASSET EXPERIENCE

Experience providing electrical engineering services for correctional facilities such as preparing drawings, specifications, reports, condition assessments or tender documents.

Experience providing electrical engineering services for laboratory facilities such as preparing drawings, specifications, reports, condition assessments or tender documents.

Experience providing electrical engineering services for infrastructure such as wharves or bridges.

Experience in analysis and design for renewable energy projects (photovoltaics and/or wind turbine systems).

Experience in preparing detailed scopes of work and terms of references with the purpose of engaging engineering consultants.

Willingness and ability to work overtime on occasion on short notice, including weekends.

Willingness and ability to travel by car, boat, helicopter or airplane.

Willingness and ability to work in the environment of correctional buildings and penitentiaries of all security levels.

Willing and able to work in and around construction sites, wearing protective equipment.

Possession of a valid driver’s license or personal mobility to the extent normally associated with the possession of a valid driver’s license, within the limits of Treasury Board Policy.

Registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada and the successful candidate must maintain this registration for the duration of employment.
