Duties

Program Managers – Stewardship
Stewardship Program Managers work with Indigenous groups, governments, community groups, non-government organizations and industry to promote collaborative and targeted action for salmon conservation and rebuilding.

Program Managers – Resource Management
Resource Management Program Managers work to effectively manage salmon and other fisheries in the Fraser and Interior Area. This work involves on-going discussion and planning with Indigenous organizations and with commercial and recreational fishing interests.

The Fraser and Interior Area encompasses a large part of British Columbia. The geographic area covered is immense stretching from the headwaters of the Fraser River at Tete Jaune Cache to the mouth of the Fraser. This area also includes Howe Sound, the Thompson River watershed, the Okanagan Watershed and the Canadian portion of the Columbia watershed. The positions that will be staffed under this inventory are physically located in Kamloops, Delta, Prince George and Williams Lake, BC. The area is geographically diverse with interests in Pacific Salmon, pelagics, marine invertebrates and the habitats they depend upon.

Please note that the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada has currently adopted a hybrid way of work including a minimum of 1 to 2 days/week in workplace.

Intent of the process

A pool will be created and may be used to staff various Indeterminate, Term, Deployment, Acting or Assignment positions at full or part-time hours in various locations in the Fraser and Interior Area of the Pacific Region such as Kamloops, Delta, Prince George and Williams Lake.

Education:
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience engaging with, consulting or collaborating with Indigenous or stewardship (environmental) organizations or commercial or recreational fishing sectors.
Experience in reviewing, interpreting and synthesizing information.
PM-05 only:
Experience delivering renewable resource related programs, including planning and implementation.
Experience planning, leading and facilitating meetings.

Knowledge of fisheries and resource management in the Pacific Region.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in commerce, economics, natural resources management, public administration, environmental studies, biology or other specialization relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience
Experience in developing, interpreting or implementing legislation, regulations, policies or procedures.
Experience in planning, coordinating or implementation of Grants and Contribution Programs.
Experience in coordinating multi-partner programs or projects in a conservation or stewardship field. (“Partner” could include other government organizations, different programs within an organization, external partners and stakeholders, etc.)
Experience in negotiating or managing contracts or agreements with government or non-government organizations.

PM-05 only
Experience providing recommendations to support decision making about natural or renewable resource management matters.
Experience supervising, managing or mentoring staff.
Experience managing financial and human resources.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Some positions may require Secret Clearance.

Willingness to travel (including long distances).
Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and variable hours as required by operational needs.
Willingness to perform work as required in helicopters, small planes, and boats.
Valid Class 5 driver's license.
Other conditions of employment may apply, depending on the position to be staffed.
