ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

factor in choosing the person to be considered for an appointment.

Duties

1. Edits, reviews, rewrites, and proofread various documents from English to French; analyzes document content and format; reviews grammar; makes appropriate modifications.
2. Conducts in-depth terminological research in the field of civil aviation to ensure the quality of documents and to maintain the Civil Aviation terminology standard (term records and glossaries); and drafts definitions.
3. Performs linguistic quality control on translation work performed by translators and by other Editors/ Writers.
4. Develops, reviews and implements tools and practices to improve editing / revision quality to improve efficiency and effectiveness of work processes, and develops solutions.
5. Provides guidance, subject matter expertise to authors, translators, service providers and the civil aviation industry on departmental editorial standards; explains changes made to communication products as part of the quality control function.
6. Leads and/or participates in committees and working groups involving private and federal organizations.
7. Negotiates with clients and service providers for the return of translated documents.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill one (1) indeterminate position.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions with various tenures in the future at Transport Canada.

EDUCATION
ED1: A degree from a recognized university with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience in translating technical texts into French* (technical translation is translation of texts treating a subject in its scientific, technological, legal and administrative aspects).
EX2: Experience in bilingual editing of French technical texts (bilingual editing is the editing of a translation against the original text to make sure the translation reflects the meaning of the original document in all aspects).
EX3: Experience in terminological research.

*Translations completed for translation courses are considered as experience.
