The Senior Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of a variety of agricultural equipment, implements, and all-terrain vehicles. This position requires an individual who is well versed in heavy duty, agricultural, or diesel engine mechanics. This position demands a high attention to detail, concern for safety, and problem solving ability. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is organized, adaptable, and works well independently.
The Science and Technology Branch (STB) undertakes agricultural research, development and knowledge transfer activities to support and contribute to the agriculture, agri-food and agri-based products sector. We work with industry, academia, Provincial governments and other partners to generate new knowledge, foster innovation and increase adoption and commercialization of agricultural, agri-food, and agri-based products, process and practices. Together, we will work to support a resilient and innovative agriculture sector. The strategic objectives for the Branch include: increasing agricultural productivity; improving environmental performance; improving attributes for food and non-food uses; and addressing threats to the agriculture and agri-food value chain.
The STB is organized into three agriculture regions, each with unique ecological environments to tailor delivery of national priorities to regional needs: Coastal Region; Prairie Region; and Ontario-Québec Region. In addition, there is a Partnerships and Planning Directorate. Our science and technology transfer capacity is distributed across the country in an extensive network of Research Centres, farms, labs, and offices.

The immediate need is to staff one position in Summerland, BC, on an indeterminate basis. A pool of candidates may be established as a result of this process, which could be used to fill similar positions with various tenures, linguistic requirements, and security requirements within Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

Education:
Successful completion of secondary school diploma or acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Journeyperson Certified Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Agricultural Equipment Technician, Diesel Engine Mechanic, or Automotive Service Technician with extensive heavy duty or agricultural equipment experience.

Experience:
Experience in the operation and maintenance of agricultural/farm equipment.
Experience in servicing, maintaining, repairing, or overhauling both gas and diesel engines.
Experience in troubleshooting equipment, analyzing faults, or recommending/implementing corrective measures.
Experience utilizing and analyzing detailed drawings, schematics, or trades manuals.
Experience or qualifications in welding, machining, or metal fabrication.
Experience in electronic record keeping, conducting internet searches and using an email as a tool for communication.
Experience in the adjustment and calibrations of various farm implements.
Experience in the purchasing and procurement of farm equipment and parts.

Possession of a valid class 5 British Columbia driver’s license or other provincial/territorial equivalency.
