The Lands and Minerals Sector is the centre of expertise on Canada’s landmass, and has a wealth of knowledge that contributes to the economic growth of our country and helps Canadians stay safe and adapt to a changing climate.
This position leads a team focused on Canada’s mineral and metals industry. The work requires management of significant multi-sector and inter-departmental files/issues and the technical aspects of said files; provision of expert technical advice; planning, overseeing, and conducting unique non-recurrent studies; and representing the Federal government and broad Canadian interests.
The intent of this process is to staff one (1) indeterminate EC-07 position in the Lands and Minerals Sector at Natural Resources Canada.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar EC-07 positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual Imperative or Non-Imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC,CCC/CCC, etc.), locations and conditions of employment.

• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with an acceptable specialization in economics, sociology, statistics.
• Experience in investigating, researching and analyzing industry trends in Canada’s natural resources sector.
• Significant* experience in providing policy advice and recommendations to senior management*** on matters related to regional economic development and complex policy issues pertaining to Canada’s natural resources sector.
• Significant* experience conducting policy research and analysis to support the development of strategic policies, plans or legislative/regulatory frameworks, including identification of economic and socioeconomic impact of proposed policy, plan, or framework.
• Experience representing the Department at interdepartmental and public meetings or workshops.
• Experience in planning, organizing and directing the operational activities of a multi-disciplinary** team, including managing human resources.
* Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of full time working experience during a period of four (4) years.
** Multi-disciplinary teams is understood to mean a team that includes various subject matter experts from different disciplines or a team comprised of stakeholders and clients.
*** Senior management is defined as Director-level (EX-01) and above.
• Graduate degree with a specialization in the field of Earth Sciences, Geology, or Engineering.
• Experience working in the mining industry.
• Experience in undertaking economic analysis and research related to the mining sector.
• Willing and able to travel within Canada.
• Willing and able to work overtime as required and to adopt flexible work hours as per operational requirements.
