The successful candidate will be expected to conduct background research, develop and implement a project plan for the upcoming field campaign of “Study of Winter Air Pollution in Toronto (SWAPIT)” planned for the winter of FY2023/24; collect, extract and analyze air and precipitation samples in the laboratory to determine pollutant levels; prepare scientific data products, and report in writing and orally on results from analyses.
Environment and Climate Change Canada is a science-based department, and we provide the science and technology information needed so that Canadians can make informed decisions about the environment. In addition, Environment and Climate Change Canada's science and technology work helps us to protect and conserve our air, water, wildlife and spaces.
The selected student will conduct work mainly at the Environment and Climate Change Canada Downsview facility, in the Process Research laboratories under the guidance and supervision of a scientific research team.

Education:
EEDU1: Must be enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in chemistry, environmental chemistry or chemical engineering, or in a field relevant to the duties of the position, in a recognized Canadian university with a fulltime student status.
Experience:
EEX1: Experience* in trace organic/environmental analytical chemistry.
EEX2: Experience* in extraction and preparation of atmospheric samples or sampling media, for the determination of trace organic pollutants.
EEX3: Experience* in field measurements of trace organic pollutants in air and/or precipitation.
*This experience can be acquired via an academic environment, work experience outside of academia, through volunteer activities or a combination of any of the above.
AEDU1: Successful completion of a course(s) in analytical/environmental trace analysis or mass spectrometry
AEX1: Experience working with and/or applying mass spectrometry methods.
AEX2: Experience performing research in an atmospheric chemistry laboratory.
