Natural Resources Canada's Canadian Forest Service (CFS) is a science-based organization that provides scientific and policy expertise and advice on forests and forest sector issues at the regional, national and international scale. One of its main mandates is to conduct scientific research about Canada's forests. CFS scientists provide expertise on topics such as wildland fire, forest pests, forest inventory monitoring, climate change, integrated resource management, sustainable forest management, restoration, industry innovation and more. CFS is also playing a key role in the transformation of the forest industry, towards a future based on innovation and the bioeconomy.
The Laurentian Forestry Centre (LFC) has 125 employees, and the management team consists of a Director General and 4 Directors. The clientele consists of research scientists and other research professionals. The Health, Safety & Environment Advisor position is located in the French-speaking city of Quebec. Its office is near the Université Laval campus, surrounded with green spaces, restaurants and shops, LFC offers an active and friendly social life. The intent of this process is to staff 1 AS-04 bilingual imperative (BBB/BBB) position on an indeterminate basis, with an anticipated start date of April 3, 2023.
A pool of candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar AS-04 positions in Quebec City, Québec within Natural Resources Canada and other government departments with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment.

Education
Post-secondary diploma or certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution in the field of occupational health and safety or in another field relevant to the duties of the position.
Experience
Recent and significant* experience in developing, planning, delivering and implementing of an occupational health and safety program.
Recent and significant* experience in enforcing, supporting and implementing of occupational health and safety and environmental legislations, regulations, policies or programs.
Recent and significant* experience in conducting occupational health and safety inspections, surveys or risk assessments.
NOTE:
*Recent and significant is defined as a minimum of 2 years of continuous service in the last 5 years.

Operational Requirements:
- Willingness to relocate, if necessary, and work at the Laurentian Forestry Centre in Quebec, Quebec.
- Willingness and ability to travel a few times a year to the Valcartier Forestry Research Station located
35 km from the Laurentian Forestry Centre.
