Work environment

Natural Resources Canada’s Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Division (CCIAD) collaborates with public and private sector stakeholders to reduce risks and capture opportunities from a changing climate. The Division builds skills and develops policies and solutions needed to plan and implement practical adaptation measures that increase the resilience of Canadian communities and their economies. CCIAD, with its team of approximately 20 people, values developing leadership skills, fostering teamwork, and supporting partnerships and innovation. The following are examples of types of initiatives led by CCIAD: Canada’s Climate Change Adaptation Platform, Canada in a Changing Climate national assessments, and Building Regional Adaptation Capacity and Expertise.

Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to staff two (2) indeterminate full-time positions.

A pool of (fully or partially) qualified candidates will be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions with various tenures (indeterminate, specified period employment, acting, deployment, assignment or secondment), with various linguistic requirements and for various bilingual linguistic profiles, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Education
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.
The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Degree equivalency

Experience
EX1 - Significant* experience in planning, overseeing, or conducting research, policy, projects, or programs related to climate change adaptation, natural resources management, or other environmental management related field.
EX2 - Significant* experience coordinating and delivering projects or initiatives which involve multiple participants or stakeholders such as government, Indigenous organizations, industry, non-government organizations, communities, experts.
EX3 - Significant* experience in preparing written documents (e.g. briefing notes, reports, presentations, or correspondence) targeting various audiences including for management and for the public.

*Significant is defined in terms of the depth, breadth, and scope of experience normally acquired by having performed a broad range of activities related to the task, acquired approximately within the last five (5) years for a period of at least three (3) years.

Degree or Master’s degree with an acceptable specialization in climate change adaptation or related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

Experience
AEX1: Experience identifying, organizing, analysing, and synthesizing information from different information sources such as government reports, research papers, and other publications.
AEX2: Experience in research, policy, projects or programs related to climate change impacts and adaptation.
AEX3: Experience with policies, projects or programs related to coastal or water management.
AEX4: Experience with policies, projects or programs related to buildings or infrastructure.
AEX5: Experience with the delivery of grant or contribution programming.
AEX6: Experience in designing or implementing policies, projects, or programs to build new skills for the workforce such as related to training, internships, professional development, communities of practice, peer-to-peer learning, and competency development.
AEX7: Experience in application of climate change data.
