Duties

Come and join the TSB, the small but mighty agency that investigates accidents related to the marine, aviation, rail and pipeline industries.

The position will offer excellent experience in various aspects of communications, which may be difficult to get with larger departments.

The successful candidate will assist the Media Relations and Strategic Communications division with the following:

• Help organize media press conferences and stakeholder outreach events and activities
• Assist in developing monthly internal newsletters
• Assist in the development of web and social media content
• Develop reports and creative data visualizations to communicate insights and trends
• Respond to media and public enquiries
• Draft communications in support of deployments and investigations
• Conduct regular media monitoring and assessments
• Work closely with our investigative modes (Air, Rail & Pipeline, Marine) as well as the web, publications and media relations teams to drive audiences to announcements and safety reports

Work environment

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is part of the core public service administration named in Schedule IV of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and is also subject to the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA). This being said the TSB is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada. The organization aspires to be a modern world-class organization that evolves and adapts as it strives to influence changes that advance transportation safety. The TSB has a strong and credible reputation in Canada and around the world.

The TSB is a small organization with approximately 220 employees across the country and 5 Board Members, including the Chair. The organization operates in a decentralized manner in 10 locations across Canada. Employees work in a collegial and collaborative environment.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) indeterminate position in our head office located in Gatineau, Québec.

A pool, for future vacancies, will be created in order to staff similar positions with various tenures, language profiles and/or requirements and security requirements and work locations.

Degree from a recognized university in communications, journalism or another field relevant to the position.

Experience
EX1 Experience monitoring and analyzing media and social media content in support of communications activities, using Newsdesk, Hootsuite, and/or Meltwater
EX2 Experience processing or coordinating media enquiries
EX3 Experience developing communications products for external audiences, such as news releases, backgrounders, social media posts, etc.
EX4 Experience developing products for internal communications
