Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of qualified candidates to be used to staff these or similar positions within Fisheries and Oceans Canada. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff these positions and/or similar (including lower level) positions on an indeterminate, specified period (term), acting, secondment/assignment, or deployment basis.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

ED1: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in civil engineering or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

REGISTRATION:

ED2: Registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Newfoundland and Labrador with PEGNL.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

EX1: Minimum of 10 years experience in the direct management of civil engineering projects through planning, design, tendering and construction phases.

EX2: Recent and significant* experience in the provision of advice, guidance and interpretation on a wide range of engineering, construction, maintenance and technical issues to senior management or clients.

EX3: Recent and significant* experience in managing a program of works comprising the delivery of multiple complex infrastructure/construction projects simultaneously.

EX4: Recent and significant* experience in effectively leading and managing a professional team and in making decisions related to human resources and staffing.

EX5: Recent and significant* experience in managing financial resources and tracking budgets and forecasts.

EX6: Recent and significant* experience in collaborating with clients and stakeholders on matters of a complex nature.

“Recent and significant” is defined as a minimum of 5 years’ experience within the last 10 years.

Asset Education:

AED1: Graduation with a graduate degree from a post-secondary institution in coastal engineering or some other field of relevance to the position.

AED2: Certification in Project Management from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

Asset Experience:

AEX1: Experience in the provision of professional engineering and environmental advice related to the planning, designing, constructing, maintaining, and repairing of marine structures such as breakwaters and wharves.

AEX2: Experience in coastal engineering.

AEX3: Experience assessing the environmental impact on marine habitat of civil construction, ocean disposal, and pollutant discharge.
