The position will be responsible for :
Planning, direction and management of a scientific division conducting activities related to engineering services in support of hazard identification, assessment and management of risks from non-ionizing radiation emitting devices and the research, testing and evaluation of radiation emitting devices to identify and address human health and safety concerns, including assessment of human exposures and public health considerations to ensure the safety of Canadians

The Healthy Environments and Consumer Safety Branch (HECSB) helps to maintain and improve the health of all Canadians by promoting healthy living, working and recreational environments, and by minimizing the harm caused by environmental factors, exposure to chemicals and radiation sources, workplace hazardous products, and unsafe consumer products and cosmetics. We work with Canadians, and other partners, to help prevent health and safety issues, target the highest risk areas to maximize our impact, and respond quickly when necessary to protect the health and safety Canadians. HECSB is organized into four directorates, each with responsibilities for a wide variety of policies, programs and services.

Your résumé.
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in electrical engineering, engineering physics or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
• *Significant experience managing a science program including leading the development and delivery of priority projects including work planning, human and financial resource allocation and project management (Excludes supervision).
• *Significant experience in evaluation of radiofrequency emissions or exposures (e.g. radio communications, electromagnetic compatibility, electromagnetic wave propagation)
• *Significant and **recent experience in providing strategic advice/recommendations to senior management (equivalent to an EX-01/Director level or above) on complex*** issues related to the evaluation of electromagnetic radiation characteristics and exposures.
• *Significant experience interpreting and analysing complex scientific information and research data in order to assess radiofrequency or optical radiation emitting devices and their safety level.
• *Significant and **recent experience in developing and maintaining consultative and collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners.
*Significant is defined as having the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired over a period of at least three (3) years.
**Recent experience is defined as experience normally acquired within the last five (5) years.
***Complex is defined as activities involving two or more of the following elements: 1) multiple sub-issues or related issues; 2) multiple stakeholders; 3) critical timelines; 4) a high degree of visibility or political sensitivity 5) having a major impact on the organization or the public.
• Experience in authorship of published or internal reports, papers, plans, or other scientific communication.
• Experience in coordinating laboratory activities supporting a regulatory, scientific or certification program.
• Experience in representing government or organizations in international fora (e.g. World Health Organization, International Electrotechnical Commission, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).
• Experience in providing scientific leadership in the area of radiofrequency or optical radiation human health risk assessments.

Masters or Doctorate degree from a recognized university in electrical engineering, engineering physics or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
• Knowledge of key international standards/guidelines and professional organizations involved in the assessment and management of risks from non-ionizing radiation sources (e.g. RF, laser, UV, visible light).
• Knowledge of Health Canada’s recommended human exposure limits to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields.
• Knowledge of federal and provincial/territorial responsibilities with respect to protecting the health of Canadians from radiation emitting products.
