Intent of the process

The immediate need is to fill one indeterminate position in Petawawa, ON.
This process may be used to staff the same or similar positions with various tenures, language or security requirements within DND.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Possession of valid Province of Ontario qualification certificates in:
• Gasfitter 1 (G1) and
• Oil Burner 1 (OBT-1)
OR
Possession of valid Interprovincial Red Seal certification of qualifications in:
• Gasfitter – Class A and
• Oil Heat System Technician
OR
Acceptable (at time of application) equivalent Canadian Armed Forces qualification for applicable trade (QL5).
*Candidate must be able to challenge and obtain Gasfitter 1 (G1) and Oil Burner 1 (OBT-1) trade certificates prior to appointment.

EXPERIENCE:
Significant* experience in the operation, maintenance and installation of residential, commercial, or industrial natural gas, propane and oil fired heating systems and associated components.
Experience in inspecting, testing and troubleshooting nature gas, propane and oil fired heating systems.

*Significant is defined as having a minimum of approximately two (2) years’ experience.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a Gas Fitter 2 or 3 licence
Possession of Liquid Propane fitter (LP) certificate
Possession of one or more of the following certifications:
• First Aid
• CPR
• WHMIS
• Aerial Lift
• Working From Heights
• Lock-Out Tag-Out
• Confined Space Entry

Experience working or volunteering in a mixed civilian/military environment
Experience in the handling of Chemicals and HAZMAT.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness and ability to obtain and retain a DND 404.
Willingness and ability to be on a standby or a call-in list and asked to respond after hours within one hour of being called in.
Willingness and ability to work overtime including weekends.
Willingness and ability to wear personal protective equipment used in a construction/maintenance environment.
Willingness and ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, scaffolding and work from heights. Work may include but not limited to standing, climbing, walking, lifting, bending, pulling and/or pushing, grasping, reaching, stooping, and crouching, sitting, color determination, speaking and listening, and working in hot and cold environments for extended periods of time.

Reliability Status security clearance
