Duties

The IT Solutions group at TSB is looking for a dynamic person who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.
As a Senior Application Architect, you will participate in the full software development life cycle, including:
• designing a new modern architecture for migrating legacy applications to ReactJS;
• writing reusable, modular code and being a project lead on a project specific basis;
• the opportunity to focus on new development.

With a demonstrated aptitude for fostering collaboration and communication skills, you will:
• guide other developers with code reviews and mentorship; and,
• encourage innovative explorations into new frameworks, architectures and new technologies.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is part of the core public service administration named in Schedule IV of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and is also subject to the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA). This being said the TSB is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada. The organization aspires to be a modern world-class organization that evolves and adapts as it strives to influence changes that advance transportation safety. The TSB has a strong and credible reputation in Canada and around the world.

The TSB is a small organization with approximately 220 employees and 5 Board Members, including the Chair. The organization operates in a decentralized manner in 10 locations across Canada. Employees work in a collegial and collaborative environment.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill one (1) position on a temporary basis for 24 months (with the possibility of becoming permanent). A pool of partially qualified candidates may be created, this pool could be used to staff other similar positions in the future on a temporary or permanent basis.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

Degree equivalency

1. Recent and significant* experience in JavaScript framework development, including creation of Single Page Applications (SPA), and creation of reusable standard components and libraries. ReactJS is ideal, Angular 2+ or AngularJS are also acceptable.

2. Recent and significant* experience in developing applications in .Net with a Microsoft SQL Server back-end.

*Recent and significant refers to the breadth and depth of experience acquired over approximately 2 years within the last 7 years. Breadth and depth is defined as a combination of time spent doing the activity, as well as type (range, scope, and complexity) of work performed.
