Intent of the process

🚢 At this time, the purpose of this process is to fill one (1) term position in Sept-Îles with the possibility of extension. This pool of qualified candidates can be used to staff positions of various durations and profiles within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada for the Quebec Region.

🎓EDUCATION

College diploma (postsecondary studies or CEGEP studies) in Civil Engineering, in Architectural technology or, an acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Recent* and significant** experience in the service delivery of technical support, opinion and advice in engineering in support of construction, maintenance or repair of, or portions of, civil and/or marine infrastructures

Recent* and significant** experience in monitoring construction, maintenance or repair work of, or of portions of, civil and/or marine infrastructures.

Recent* and significant** experience in inspecting and assessing the state of civil and/or maritime infrastructure.

* Recent experience means experience gained within the last five (5) years
** Significant experience is defined as experience whose depth and breadth are normally acquired over a period of 1 year.

KNOWLEDGE

- General knowledge of the methods, standards and technologies used in construction, bathymetric sounding and dredging in marine and/or coastal environments.
- Knowledge of the usual investigative and inspection practices and procedures within the context of construction, maintenance or repair projects of, or portions of, civil and/or marine infrastructures.

ABILITIES

- Ability to coordinate, monitor and make recommendations with respect to construction projects management.
- Ability to prepare and present technical follow-up reports of construction work.
- Ability to write bidding documents and manage contracts for minor maintenance work including the preparation of schedules and cost estimation.
- Ability to manage minor contractual disputes.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in the field of civil engineering.

Degree equivalency

Member of a corporation of professional technologists in Canada.

Work experience in marine or coastal environments.

Experience in the use of the Autocad software.

General knowledge of the DFO Small Craft Harbours Program.

Must hold a valid driving licence.
Consent to walk on rough grounds, port infrastructures and construction sites while hostile meteorological conditions prevail (cold weather, wind, rain, snow).

Consent to operate small crafts.

Candidates must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to a position.
