Duties

This project involves the study of Late Triassic chemostratigraphy and environmental analysis in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin in northeastern British Columbia. The study will involve fieldwork in remote locations, to examine sections and collect samples throughout the middle Carnian time interval. These samples will then be analyzed for carbon isotope geochemistry. Future years may include the possibility for additional fieldwork. The project aims to interpret environmental changes in the middle Carnian, and to understand the relationship between these changes and the fossil record. This study will form part of a larger study of stratigraphy and environmental change in the Late Triassic as part of the GEM GeoNorth Program of the Geological Survey of Canada.

Intent of the process

The intention is to staff one student position for the completion of a Master of Science degree supervised by Dr Jon Husson at the University of Victoria.
