Duties

The Desktop Publishing Technician formats documents using advanced features of document production software such as Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint and PDF creation/conversion applications.

Stream 1
The documents are varied in nature and relate to the work of the Parliament of Canada and associated organizations. A portion of the workload must be carried out under tight deadlines. Various work schedules are established to serve Parliament and provide services to clients from coast to coast.

Stream 2
The documents are varied in nature and relate to the work of federal departments or agencies. A portion of the workload must be carried out on site under tight deadlines. Various work schedules are established to serve clients from coast to coast.

Translation Bureau

The Parliamentary Translation Directorate and the Translation Bureau’s Linguistic Services Sector are looking for committed, motivated individuals who enjoy working in a stimulating environment focused on client service excellence to fill positions on their desktop publishing team.

The Translation Bureau employs people from across Canada with a variety of skills, interests and experience, which is why we are flexible regarding location and are open to telework.

Intent of the process

The immediate intent of the process is to staff both term and indeterminate positions. However, the process may be used to establish a pool of fully or partly qualified candidates for similar positions in Public Services and Procurement Canada with varying security requirements, linguistic profiles and terms.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of six months’ office work experience over the last three years requiring the creation and formatting of documents containing complex elements* by following detailed formatting instructions.

OR

Graduation within the last five years from a program of study* through which the above-mentioned experience was acquired. The candidate must prove the relevance of the program of study by providing the name of the program and school and describing the courses related to the required experience.

* “Study program” refers to a diploma, but not limited to, in office automation or secretarial work.
** “Complex elements’’ refers to generating graphs, creating dynamic tables of contents, using style sheets, editing images, etc.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Be willing and able to change schedule and work overtime on short notice on evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.

• Due to the operational requirements of the parliamentary system, candidates must be willing and able to change schedule; work overtime on short notice on evenings, weekends and statutory holidays; and be routinely on call outside of normal working hours.
• Secret security clearance.

Stream 1
Owing to the variable and unpredictable nature of the work, positions in the Parliamentary Translation Directorate are entitled to sessional leave in addition to the regular leave entitlement. In accordance with operational requirements for sessional leave, applicants must be willing and able to change schedules and work overtime on short notice evenings, weekends and statutory holidays and be regularly on call outside normal working hours.
